For a quick testnet start, you can install prerequisites and configure Eth Docker, as any user not named root:
cd ~ && git clone https://github.com/ethstaker/eth-docker.git && cd eth-docker./ethd install./ethd config

Eth Docker uses calendar versioning, to make it easy to align with known hardfork dates. Eth Docker will release a new version for breaking changes. If you use pinned client versions, pin Eth Docker as well.
